About the Service Technician Program

The IAA Career Pathways: Service Technician Program will prepare individuals to thrive as a service technician professional in the multifamily industry. The program modules will consist of the following:

  • Intro to the Multifamily Industry
  • Basics of Electrical
  • Basics of Appliance Repair
  • Basics of Plumbing
  • The Make-Ready Process
  • Fair Housing for Maintenance
  • Professionalism and Customer Service

Graduates of the program will be immediately placed in a 30-day paid apprenticeship with one of IAA’s professional, onsite management members. Following the apprenticeship, candidates will have the opportunity to interview for Service Technician positions in the multifamily industry.

Goals of the IAA Career Pathway:

  • Provide career knowledge and preparedness to high school students seeking a non-traditional education route, individuals in secondary vocational education, and individuals who desire a rewarding career change.
  • Recruit and train individuals interested in becoming part of the multifamily industry.
  • Quickly place candidates into rewarding careers with one of IAA’s management members across the state.

Work with your hands, solve problems, no two days are alike and never stop learning! As a residential property management service technician, you will prepare apartments for new residents, repair units of existing residents and perform community upkeep. There are many advantages to a maintenance career path in the multifamily industry, even when compared to other maintenance positions.

Average Annual Base Salary*:

  • Entry Level: $38,937
  • Maintenance Supervisor: $53,352
  • Some employers offer rent reductions of 20% or more.

Once accepted into the program, students will attend class from 8:45AM-5:00PM with one, half-hour break for lunch. Students of the program must be prepared to attend all seven (7) days of training and complete their 30-day paid apprenticeship prior to being hired on with a management company. Each day of the program will be instructed by a qualified professional in the multi-family industry utilizing our set curriculum. The apprenticeship will be with a member of IAA that will provide hands-on experience. Following the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to interview with management companies to be hired on full-time as a service technician.

Enrollment Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Valid social security number.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background screening.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Must attend the entirety of the 7-day training and complete the 30-day apprenticeship program.

Interested in Hiring a Student from IAA’s Service Technician Program?

The IAA Career Pathways: Service Technician Program is the staffing solution for your service technician needs. This curriculum was designed by leading service team training expert, Mark Cukro, and will consist of the following:

  • Intro to the Multifamily Industry
  • Basics of Electrical
  • Basics of Appliance Repair
  • Basics of Plumbing
  • The Make-Ready Process
  • Fair Housing for Maintenance
  • Professionalism and Customer Service

To complete the training, students will be paired with a member for a 30-day paid apprenticeship; the member hosting the apprenticeship must pay the student between $12-$15/hour. Each week, IAA will send both the onsite Property Manager and Maintenance Supervisor the training checklist that must be completed with the student and sent back by the Property Manager to IAA for review. Upon the completion of the apprenticeship, members will have the opportunity to hire the student on full-time.

In order to be admitted into the program, students have met the following qualifications:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid social security number.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background screening.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Must attend the entirety of the 7-day training and complete the 30-day apprenticeship program.

You’re just 5 steps away from hiring one of our students!

  1. Management Companies interested in hiring a student for a 30-day paid apprenticeship completes our interest form and pays a $1,500 fee to IAA.
  2. Management Companies will then receive a list of eligible students to interview for their 30-day apprenticeship. *
  3. Management Companies will then interview candidates of their choosing and extend an offer to three potential apprenticeship candidates. IAA will pair students with management companies based on preferences.**
  4. Following completion of the 30-day apprenticeship, the management company can choose to hire the student on full-time or simply end the apprenticeship without an offer.
  5. Students that do not go full-time with the apprenticeship host will be allowed to interview with other management companies interested in hiring full-time.

* Student must complete in-class training to be eligible for apprenticeship placement interviews.

** Students will be hired on a first come, first hire basis. Management Companies with instructors teaching modules of the Service Technician Training will have first choice of candidates.
