IAA: Bloomington is the Area Council of the Indiana Apartment Association that serves the greater Bloomington area.

The purpose of IAA: Bloomington is to promote, advise, and protect the general interest of the construction, ownership, and management of multi-family housing by engaging and uniting industry members through informative and engaging educational and networking events.

Area Council

The Area Council is a critical component of IAA’s strategic plan. This council actively plans and executes local engagement strategies including educational and networking events, member recruitment and retention, and local advocacy efforts. Council members serve as the key contributors to new and existing services and programs throughout the year.

Upcoming Events and Education in Bloomington

Unarmed Response to Active Shooter Events

IAA has partnered with the Indiana State Police to offer active shooter training to Bloomington multifamily professionals. Police educators will share general safety and response information while also answering questions oriented toward property management. The session includes a screening of a video, review of best practices for safeguarding oneself and others in the event of an active shooter.

Topics will include:

– Developing a plan specific to your property/location.

– Reviewing your location’s security.

– Training all staff on emergency response and preparing an emergency kit.

– Dealing with hostile or overwrought people in an effort to de-escalate issues before they become an emergency.

– Communicating and working with police and emergency response agencies.

The Middle Child of Multifamily

A course written especially for the issues of the assistant manager, this class will provide great tips for success in that role.  Tips for dealing with resident drama, supplier drama, team drama, and even manager drama will be discussed! Discussions will include collections, leading the leasing team, managing the maintenance team, and stepping into the manager’s role when needed. The instructor will also do a deep dive into lease renewals, rent increases, and even steps for your personal growth in the industry. Lots of meat in this session, so sign up today!
